Darker Ice

Jack had glanced down, his eyes then rising to look at Pitch. He was suddenly feeling like a useless little trash, which was being held down by a wind coming from above. Against the shadowy cave floor, shivering between the cold rocks that were scattered around. And he knew he’d need to do something. Make an offer, maybe.

And then without a warning, Jack let out a quiet laughter. It was a tad lower than before, and he glanced away before looking at Pitch again. “And I almost thought that you were filled with eagerness to get me to change sides like this”, he then said, not too rudely, but with some sort of confidence, “Yes, I have changed my mind, you know that better than anyone else.”

Jack took a deep breath as he paused for a few seconds. He glanced at the staff in his hand, a weak smile playing on his lips. “I am able to bring people fun and happiness, but I can also give them fear. I’ve once seen how scared they can be when the ground is covered with thick black ice. They’ve been hiding inside their houses because of the snow storms, icicles falling down the chute, broken bones and pain…”

"Did you think about that, Pitch? I’m the Cold, the Ice. I’m a danger, a threat.”

With a tight jaw, the Nightmare King studied Jack’s body language in lengthy silence. It was an unnatural pause in the conversation that would put almost anyone on edge. Awkward could describe the situation, but not the kind one could laugh off. Pitch’s moon eyes were still, locked on Jack’s neck for unknown reasons. Motionless, the King allowed this breathless and eerie break drag on so much that time itself seemed to slow down with weak ticks of a clock long forgotten in existence. Time was frivolous; no longer mattered. This moment was what mattered, and it was long enough for Jack to second guess his entire existence should he let his mind wander.

Eventually, it was a careful grin and broke the hypnotic stillness Pitch had created on purpose. With teeth gaping in a frightening smile, Pitch bore his eyes deeper into Jack’s soul, “I suppose,” he began, giving off the impression that he was debating the worthiness of Jack’s life, “that will have to suffice.”

Have to.

As if Pitch was merely allowing Jack to live now because he so chose to by his own discretion and not because Jack said the right thing. Pitch wanted Jack to feel terrible for his reply. He wanted Jack to feel like he failed his King. But Pitch was impressed by Jack. He just would not let good regard show.

"A threat to the weak, perhaps. A danger to the reckless. You did die in that lake from your own stupidity after all,” His words were slow, calculative, contemplating, “A threat to me? Not at all. Not anymore. No reason for the King of the Galaxies to be concerned about a child shouting big words.”

The smile lessened, but Pitch was still smug where he stood. He crossed his arms defiantly, rejecting any power Jack might feel he has over Pitch.

Jack was standing still, his attention locked to Pitch as he heard the older spirit to speak again. And that… grin. Of course, the boy didn’t want to show any reactions that could have exposed any hesitation, but he did feel a chill run through his spine as he saw that smile on Pitch’s face. He didn’t know why or how, but if he wasn’t like that and in such a situation, trying to defend himself, he could have felt scared.

"Maybe, but at least it’s something", Jack muttered, not looking away this time as he tensed a little partly involuntarily, "At least I-" Hesitation. Damn it. Yes, he had been lured out. His line of defense was already cracking, and it made Jack frown in defeat, desperation. Of course, of course…

"I’m not worthless", he said, almost whispering, trying his best to not to break completely even if he was seemingly losing the argumentation, "I’m not a piece of trash, which you can just throw aside…"

Sadness, there might have been a little bit of sadness in Jack’s voice. What was the use? No, he needed to collect the remaining pieces of anger, and strength.

"You’ll see it, Pitch. You’ll see my power", Jack continued, "I can make the world shiver under breath. You’ll see."

Accidental Friendship

hiccups-heaven:

Jack was breathing deeply and slowly, his eyes looking at the gunman again as he approached before stopping as he saw the man move his hand. He noticed the man to glance around the class before he looked over his shoulder to the corridor.

"Follow!" the man commanded. Jack let out a quiet sigh, he had been expecting that the two of them would be moved elsewhere, but of course the people in the class wouldn’t be given much chances to escape either.

So he walked again, carefully following the man even if he felt the gun brush his side and arm as the man tried to hurry them.

Hiccup winced as he felt the cold metal of the gun press against his fragile body. The gunman urged them forward, leading them down towards the teacher’s lounge. He puled the door open, and peeked inside, making sure there was no one in the room. He then shoved both of the boys into the room.

"Don’t try anything. I will be right back." He sneered before locking the door and trudging off.

Hiccup took in a few shaky breathes, looking over at Jack, unsure of what to do now.

Jack did as told, being quiet as they were forced to stay in the room, at least for now. He then glanced at his companion. The boy seemed scared, but he wasn’t screaming just yet. Maybe it was a good thing, maybe not. Jack glanced at the door, assuring that the man wouldn’t come back in a few seconds.

"Just keep quiet, he won’t harm you that way", Jack whispered as he looked at Hiccup from the corner of his eye, "We’ll get out of this mess."

"I hope so…." Hiccup smiled and leaned forward, kissing Jack’s cheek. "Want to… build a snowman? Take our mind off all of this?"

A wide smile formed onto Jack’s lips and he nodded. “Oh, yes!” he replied happily, “We’re gonna build it next to the small lake, maybe?” He suggested.

Hiccup smiled softly and nods. “Yes, that sounds like a perfect idea.” He grabbed Jack’s hand and lead the way happily.

Jack smiled widely, letting Hiccup take his hand and start walking. Happiness and joy were storming inside his chest and mind, and he wished so sincerely for it all to last like that. He had no worry in his mind.

Jack kept his eyes at Pitch’s own as he nodded, weakly but not unnoticed. “I have a feeling that they will”, he replied, assuring that he too believed the two of them could happen. Like Pitch had said before, in Antarctica. Maybe those words had been echoing in Jack’s head ever since, but only he could see the potential that would be offered if and when he’d join the Nightmare King.

"Yes, I believe so", Jack added, taking a small step forward, confident and alive, "I do."

Pitch dared to reach a dark hand forward, brushing it against the pale spirit’s cheek.  He was naturally wary of contact, it was so foreign to him, but he had to reassure himself that this was happening.  That it wasn’t an illusion of his darkness, taunting him.  The boy’s skin was cool beneath his fingers.

"Let’s show them, then." He grinned like a shark.  "Shall we pay a visit to the mortal world above?  Give them a little taste of our Winter?”  The Nightmares around him snorted and stomped eagerly, appearing out of the surrounding shadows.

Jack looked deep into Pitch’s eyes, his mind clear and empty without hesitation. He then nodded, feeling the other spirit’s hand on his cheek as he answered to the question. Oh, yes.

"Yes", a wide smile pulled up Jack’s lips.

Jack looked into Pitch’s eyes, before a small smile crawled onto his lips. “My Winter…” he started with a tad lower voice, “I haven’t been given a chance to release it all… but now I want to. And I’m able to do that. I’m able to bring the eternal winter if I want to. The world will shiver under my freezing breeze.” He was smiling even wider, like a maniac who had been prevented doing his job for a long time, but Jack tried to keep himself cool.

"I can do that. And I want to do it with you."

Pitch was stunned at his good fortune.  After centuries of fighting, of hiding in the shadow of the Guardians, of walking unseen in the world above, things might finally be changing.  Not only that, but this little Winter sprite wanted to be by his side.  Perhaps it was all a dream, but the King of Nightmares didn’t get happy dreams such as this.

"Will my words in Antarctica ring true, then?"  He leaned forward, molten gold blazing in his formerly pale eyes as he gazed into the brilliant sapphire of Jack’s.  "Will they believe in both of us?  In Cold and Dark?"  He liked the look in the boy’s eyes.  Not dull and complacent like those other Guardians.  Wild, free.  A small laugh began low in his throat, one that grew in volume until it echoed through the shadowed halls.

"Stop being smug," Hiccup smiled and buried into him, "I’m still slightly shocked that it all worked out…." He pulls back. "But…what am I going to tell my dad? I told him I fell for someone, so he’s going to want to meet him, but he can’t even see you."

Jack looked into Hiccup’s eyes. Oh, yeah… he hadn’t thought about that much. “Uh, well…” he muttered, frowning as he tried to think of something, anything, “We’ll figure this out… I know we will.”

"No, you would not," Pitch responded softly.  The idea that the Guardians might have chased Jack away, done something to hurt him, bothered him more than it should have. "They are unforgivable."

He stared into the smaller spirit’s eyes.  “But I am not like them.  I will not forget about you.”  He stepped back, throwing his arms wide.  “What is it that you desire?  A world of endless snow and ice?  A Winter storm strong enough to obscure the Moon?”  White fangs shown in a feral grin.  “I think that would be quite a spectacular wake-up call for them.”

Jack kept on looking at Pitch, seeing the glimmer in the older spirit’s eyes. It made him think about it, like, really. He knew he wouldn’t be happy if he remained with the Guardians, he never would. And by each word his mind was turning to Pitch, the temptation slowly overrunning his thoughts. And he agreed with the part about Guardians being unforgivable. They had done things without asking from Jack, forcing him join their work, submitting to be their errand boy… but no more.

"Yes", he then nodded, more confidence in his voice as he answered, "I.. want to do what I was meant to. I want to be free.” And it was enough for Jack.

"And what is it that you were meant to do, Jack Frost?"  Pitch watched him with quicksilver eyes.  "I’ve seen the snowballs, and the little flurries.  I’ve seen the mountain blizzards and the ice-covered trees.  But what is your true power?  Show me your Winter.  Show me what they wouldn’t let you.”  A hint of gold flashed in his eyes.

Jack looked into Pitch’s eyes, before a small smile crawled onto his lips. “My Winter…” he started with a tad lower voice, “I haven’t been given a chance to release it all… but now I want to. hiccups-heaven:

Hiccup slowly got to his feet, his body shaking. He had tried to stifle the impetuous racking that was going through his body, but he barely could.

He watched Jack and almost jumped when he heard the low whisper that escaped his lips. Hiccup wanted to trust that he knew what he was doing but did anyone in these types of situations? There were always people trying to look heroic and beat the bad guy but ended up getting themselves hurt or killed in the process.

Nonetheless, Hiccup didn’t want to step out of bounds so he followed behind Jack closely, mimicking his every step. He would put his life is this boy’s hands.

What on earth was he thinking?

Jack was breathing deeply and slowly, his eyes looking at the gunman again as he approached before stopping as he saw the man move his hand. He noticed the man to glance around the class before he looked over his shoulder to the corridor.

Jack smiled at the girl, and followed as Hiccup pulled him away from the curious eyes. Anna seemed to return to his father anyways, so they’d be left in peace for a moment.

"Yeah, but it did!" Jack said happily, "And like I said: everything went alright after." He smiled.

"Stop being smug," Hiccup smiled and buried into him, "I’m still slightly shocked that it all worked out…." He pulls back. "But…what am I going to tell my dad? I told him I fell for someone, so he’s going to want to meet him, but he can’t even see you."

UGH, real life things…

OOC: Heyyy, and sorry about my absence… I owe a quick explanation and I’ll just say that there’s been tons of school work after the holidays plus I just heard that a dear relative of mine is dying of cancer in less than four months so… yeah, I may run a bit slow with this blog since my attention and energy were elsewhere most of my time. But I’ll try and pop by whenever I can/feel like it.
